TCGPlayer vs eBay for Selling Cards: Which Is Better?

If you sell cards online, you've probably asked this question: should I list on TCGPlayer or eBay? The honest answer is both — but understanding the strengths of each platform helps you decide where to focus your energy and which cards go where.

The Audience

TCGPlayer's audience is almost entirely TCG players and collectors. These buyers know card conditions, set names, and market prices. They're looking for specific cards and they'll find yours through search. eBay's audience is broader — it includes TCG collectors but also casual buyers, gift shoppers, and people who just found a box of cards in their closet and want to see what they're worth.

For TCG singles (Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic, One Piece), TCGPlayer buyers are more knowledgeable and purchase with less hand-holding. For sports cards, slabs, and vintage, eBay is the dominant marketplace.

Fees

TCGPlayer charges a selling fee that varies by seller level — typically around 10–13% for most sellers, with additional payment processing. eBay charges 13.25% for cards up to $7,500, then 2.35% above that, plus payment processing. The fees are close enough that they shouldn't be the deciding factor. What matters more is where your cards sell faster and at higher prices.

Listing Process

TCGPlayer wins on listing speed for TCG singles. You search the card, select condition, set your price, and you're live. No photos required for Near Mint cards. eBay requires photos for every listing, which is more work but also lets you showcase condition for premium cards. For high-value cards where condition nuances matter, eBay's photo requirement is actually an advantage.

Shipping

TCGPlayer offers Direct, where you ship inventory to their warehouse and they handle fulfillment. This is huge for high-volume sellers. eBay requires you to ship everything yourself, but the Standard Envelope option (for cards under $20 and 3 oz) keeps shipping costs to around $1. Both platforms work, but TCGPlayer Direct saves significant time if you qualify.

The Smart Play

List TCG singles under $50 on TCGPlayer — the built-in search and knowledgeable buyer base means they sell with minimal effort. List sports cards, slabs, high-value singles, and anything where photos matter on eBay — the broader audience and auction format can drive higher prices.

Regardless of where you list, your mybadge links to both. A buyer who finds your TCGPlayer store might also want to check your eBay listings. Having both shops visible on your badge means you never send traffic to just one platform.
